Introducing MediaRouter™ from BMS

The BMS TCII Media Router System offers extended network capabilities to mobile ENG field units using the BMS Truck-Coder II (or other) digital microwave system.

MediaRouterThe system consists of a Mobile Media Router in the truck and a Media Router Gateway installed at the receive site. The Mobile Media Router allows Internet protocol (IP) to be routed across a COFDM digital radio link using MPEG transport streams, and accepts a return link. The Media Router Gateway is installed at the central receive site and receives the MPEG Transport Stream, converting the data back to IP datagrams.

The TCII Media Router allows the operator to send pre-recorded program segments as files (as generated by Panasonic P2®, Sony XDCAM® or Avid Lanshare®) to the studio over the digital radio link or via the wireless network. Thes files can then be sent while simultaneously data transmitting live video and audio over unused bandwidth capacity. The Media Router data rate may be scaled to take advantage of unused microwave bandwidth, thus optimizing bandwidth available for the file transfer.

The data transfer is highly asymmetric which means there is a high rate transmission in the forward path (truck to studio) and a low rate transmission for the return path (from studio to truck). The data return path may be implemented in a variety of ways. A recommended method is via Digital Cellular Modem supporting CDMA 1xEVDO Standard. Other Cellular standards are available via an easy upgrade path. In addition the use of
a Digital Cellular Modem provides a continuous connection with the broadcast studio, even without the deployment of the truck Mast.
